Environment

Our Services
The TRR's environmental activities are the following:
  • Environmental Impact Assessment - EIA
  • Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) and Integrated Environmental Authorisation (AIA)
  • Remediation of contaminated soils Studies
  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and audits, procedures for the management of environmental aspects
  • Evaluation using software about the impacts of pollutants in air, water and soil
  • DAPHNIA: identification of the level of risk generated by the use of environment-hazardous substances

Environmental Impact Assessment

TRR has developed specific expertise in the following fields:
  • Extracting and processing hydrocarbons
  • Refining and petrochemical plants
  • Organic and inorganic chemical plants
  • Storage of hazardous substances
  • Transport of hazardous substances (such as LPG, natural gas, ammonia, hydrogen, etc.) by road, rail, pipeline, ship
  • Combustion plants and waste incinerators
  • Steel plants, processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Paper Industry
  • Landfills
  • Roads and highways

Software for the quantification of impacts

  • in the air (eg. through EPA ISC-III software)
  • in streams and reservoirs (EPA - Aquatox)
  • sea releases (EPA GNOME)
  • soil and subsoil (EPA HSSM, NAPL2D)

Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC)

TRR has been applying for several years the European Directive related to the integrated pollution prevention, providing support to Public Authorities, with specific training courses.
TRR has defined and implemented a specific methodology for the identification and application of Best Available Technologies (BAT). This methodology involves three different types of analysis:

  • Analysis from the bottom-up, which compares each unit to the standard defined in the MTD (B.REF.)
  • Analysis from the top-down that considers macro systems and their effects on the environment
  • Comparison among other similar plants in Europe
  • Evaluation of the results by benefits-costs diagrams

The competences required for the application of this methodology are:

  • Specialization in process engineering
  • Knowledge of the new EU regulations in the process of drawing up
  • Knowledge and awareness of public opinion
